Victim Identifed in I-75 Wrong Way Crash
Victim Identified as Jamin Zachery
ATLANTA — A driver going the wrong way in downtown Atlanta caused a fatal head-on collision.
Police said the driver, Theus Monroe, 26, was heading north on I-75 southbound when he hit another car. Tuesday was Monroe’s birthday.
Police said Jasmin Zachery, 25, was in the other car and died in the crash. Her family told CBS Atlanta’s Tony McNary that Zachery was deaf. She was a student at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Her family said Zachery was on her way home from a friend’s house when the crash occurred.
Police said Monroe was traveling at a high rate of speed when he collided with Zachary.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be freed.
Monroe is in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital with head injuries.
He was arrested for reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, and driving the wrong way.
Shocking!!! I know Jasmine Zachery from Atlanta Area School for the Deaf in Atlanta, Georgia. I was teacher’s aide that time. I knew her as a quiet and sweet girl. So sad! She’ll be missed dearly.
Ill always remember Jazzy for her beautiful smile, outstanding personality, motivation towards life. The deaf community who knew her are stunned by her immediate death. Saw her around few times in Atlanta, very bright girl and her smile cheer folks life.
