KOU.com staff report

HOUSTON — A 9-year-old deaf girl who was pulled from the pool of T.H. Rogers Elementary Thursday has died.

The girl fell into the pool during a P.E. class.  She was unconscious when she was pulled from the water.

HISD said staff members performed CPR and called 911. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and took her to the hospital, where she was put on life support.

But one school source told 11 News that a policy at the school may have wasted precious moments getting the girl emergency care.

The source said only the school nurse is allowed to call 911 in a medical emergency.

It was unclear exactly why the girl fell in, but she reportedly had a history of seizures.

I really think in this instance they( staff on scene ) should have bypassed the school rules and called 911 and that child might have been saved,, by waiting to get PERMISSION from the SCHOOL NURSE,, wasted valuable time,,and yes the childs life.
My sympathy goes to her family

Oh my goodness… feel so sad to loose one good deaf girl.. The staff need to be more aware and more closer to the children

Too bad some reports are false information…the staff was aware, they saw her fall in which is why she was pulled out in probably under 30 seconds. Staff did call 911, no one waited for the nurse, there is no such 911 policy on the campus.
