LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT – Michael Bisping (14-0) vs. Matt Hamill (5-0):

Pre-Fight Prediction: Michael Bisping via decision

The Fight: ROUND ONE: Mario Yamasaki is the official. Mat charges out and lands a jab. Another and they exchange, both landing good shots. God jabs by Matt, leaping knee by Matt misses. Kicks by Bisping, leg kicks by Bisping and a knee by Bisping, Matt catches and to the ground they go. Back to the feet already as Matt let Bisping up. Knee by Bisping, jabs now and Matt answers back with jabs. Straight right by Matt, jabs now and a combo by Bisping. Leg kicks by Bisping, jabs now and Matt answers. Matt with a takedown, Bisping to his feet but they clinch and are against the cage. Dirty boxing by Matt and Bisping is bloodied. They separate, good combo by Matt and Bisping is rocked a bit. Matt has a leg, but cannot get him down. Bisping is cut and they exchange. Jabs by Matt, leg kicks by Bisping to answer. Matt with those looping Liddell jabs. Combo by Bisping as he fires back, lands good shots and backs Matt off. Matt with more shots and Bisping basically runs away from him. As Bisping backs off he falls on his ass as the round ends.

LARRY’S SCORE CARD: Good opening round for Matt Hamill. He stayed up, rocked Bisping and cut him up. Bisping looked lost at times. Hamill gets the round 10-9.

ROUND TWO: Round two begins and Matt jabs to begin. He backs off Bisping, but Bisping back with a combo and a leg kick by Matt takes him down. Bisping looks to use the rubber guard, Matt still in control as he works to get out of the closed guard. Matt landing some body shots, side control and Bisping is able to escape and to the feet they go. Jabs again by Matt, then by Bisping. A left hook by Bisping misses, jabs by Mat. They clinch, elbow by Matt and he releases. Good shots by Matt and he again backs Bisping off. Quick exchange of rights, Matt shoots and gets the takedown. They stand and clinch, rights by Matt and they separate. Jabs by Matt, another connects and another. Bisping is jittery and dancing, not doing much. Jabs again by Matt, Bisping with a straight right but eats another jab. Combo by Bisping, mostly blocked and the round ends.

LARRY’S SCORE CARD: Not nearly as dominating a round for Hamill, but the takedown and shots landed, with overall aggression is enough to take the round; even though he never had Bisping in trouble. Hamill 10-9.

ROUND THREE: Final round and they come out jabbing. Bisping with a good uppercut and combo to follow and rocked Matt. More shots by Bisping, fake knee and jab by Bisping. He slips and Matt looks for a takedown, but backs off. Left hook by Matt, they exchange and a great right by Bisping. Matt shoots, great sprawl by Bisping to stop that. Looping shots by Mat miss as he looks tired now. Matt shoots and gets the takedown. Great counter wrestling by Bisping and Matt into the closed guard. Bisping tries an arm bar, but Matt counters and gets him against the cage. Bisping to his feet and they go back to striking. Great knee by Bisping, but he gets taken down again. Good shots from Bisping in the guard, he works to push Matt off and looks for the right arm bar again. Good shots by Bisping, side control by Matt and ha starts to land shots. North south and Bisping to his feet, he lands a good combo and leg kick. They start to throw wildly and a great kick by Bisping to the face of Matt. Mat shoots in, sprawl by Bisping and that is all.

LARRY’S SCORE CARD: I have to go Bisping for this round. He did very good damage, clean hits and his counters from the takedowns were good. I could easily see some one going for Hamill here though due to the takedowns. Unfortunately it is too late on my card, as I go 29-28 for Hamill.

The Result: Michael Bisping via SPLIT decision (Bisping 29-28, Hamill 30-27, Bisping 29-28)

Joe Rogan is with Bisping says he got hit but doesn’t think he was in trouble. He says this counts even more because he shut up Hamill. He talks us through the replays, and says he out boxed Hamill. He thanks everyone.

Joe is now with Hamill. He says Mike did a good job and he gives him all the credit in the world. Hamill seemed totally deflated there.

Lot of people are upset that Matt lost.

I’m a fan of both fighters, I thought Hamill did extremely well and I was surprised to see the fight go to Bisping in the end. Great performance by Hamill – hats off to him!

Yikes! Matt Hamill totally! won the fight period. I was totally thinkin fix!! by England… who’s the judges? What did Bipsing do the whole fight? Nothing! Maybe one small knee in the 3rd… lots of combos to Matt’s elbows as he protected his head. Matt totally controlled the center of the octagon, he had Bipsing running for his life.

When on the floor, Matt dominated on top. Bipsing never dominated Matt once the whole fight.

What about takedowns? Only Matt took Bipsing down! Bipsing not once.

Bipsing did escape a few times, probably scored points but dang Matt was the aggressor! Granted Matt’s repitore, and lack of combinations probably hurt him. He should have used his wrestling skills to ground and pound Bipsing with his elbows ala Tito Style!

I think Matt tried to surprise Bipsing by fighting stand up the whole fight. He wanted to show that he can hit & take a hit.

Went to bed thinking Matt should have won! and woke up thinking Matt should have won!

Don’t worry Matt, I spell round 2 re-match in the future! You’ll get better and K/O or Submit Bipsing in the 1st round prove that the split decision was totally wrong!

Hang in there man, You won the Fight.

Oh my gosh, that chicken won???? Why did the judge decided it was Bipsing??? Matt is a true winner and he’s a lot braver than Bipsing…As I watched the video, Bipsing is like ‘a running for life ‘chicken and then he won???
I read the message above the video…that it says, “I am surprised to see Hamill’s lack of submission attempts”…I don’t understand what it means? Matt Hamill did a whole fight and Bipsing…was just protecting himself in the boxing.. I don’t understand.

I thought it was a great fight. Both fighters performed well. Although I am a bit surprised that Bisping came out on top. Either way it was very entertaining.

Hamill won the 1st 2 rounds clearly. The 3rd round was close. It’s a shame when judges do that. It was an obvious win for Matt.

Checked the website you posted. I voted for Matt. Surprised me…probably not for some of you already knew, that 95% voted for Matt, the hammer and only 5% for Bisping.

I demand rematch between Hamill and Bisping. The fight will be held at Las Vegas. The judges in London are dishonest.

If it happens, Matt will win with no doubt. Knockout Mike on first round.

  13. September 9, 2007 at 11:10 pm

I agree that Hamill won 2 rounds to 1 after watching it again.

I like Bisping, but for all the trash-talking he did about Hamill, saying he didn’t even belong in the same ring is him, he should have beat him CONVINCINGLY. Which clearly, he didn’t. If anything, Hamill was robbed.

Matt Hamill got robbed. In my opinion, he won the first two rounds and struggled in the third round. Bisping, on the other hand, did not do anything to convince me that he won the fight fair and square. However, it is very difficult to win a fight in someone’s hometown because judges can be easily influenced by the hometown crowd.

I wish I could coach Hamill – I’ve seen some flaws of his fighting style but that can be corrected easily.

In the world of sports, especially when judges are involved, it is always said that no one knows what the judges really see. In most of these cases, what this means is that you can not take the individuals bias out of the match, and yes, it is often a hard thing to do, because we all have it. Does this mean that the fight was fixed, who knows, but with all of the outcry for a rematch, it probably should happen….and happen for free at that. If most people did not have respect for Matt Hamill before this fight, then they should surely have it after the fight. He really showed class in his humble response with Joe Rogan, even though in his eyes he showed the pain from this lop-sided decision. Maybe the judges saw a different fight, but Matt Hamill took it to Bisping. And to answer all of the nay-sayers, I think Matt did not want a ground game…he wanted to prove that he could stand in with a striker, and he did.

UN-FREAKING-BELIEVEABLE!!!!!! This is by far the worst referee’s decision that I have ever seen in the UFC. I have disagreed with a few, but none have ever had me screaming at the TV before. Matt Hamill won that fight – no doubts, no questions, no excuses from Bisping. The only thing that Matt should have done but didn’t was knock him out cold. With luck Matt will take a lesson from this fight – NO MORE DECISIONS: KNOCKOUTS OR SUBMISSIONS ONLY!! Don’t give any more judges the chance to screw him over.

One last comment… REMATCH ASAP!!!!!!!!! (If Bisping has the guts for it)

Unbelievable…..Hamill should have won. Was it just me or did I hear the crowd booing Bisping and cheering Hamill during the post fight interviews?

    Matt is Winner!

For those of you that say the London judges were dishonest, read the article at UFC.com. Both American judges gave the match to Bisping. The English judge scored the bout for Hamill. It was not a fix by the brits. Read the article.

For the record, I thought Hamill won as well. Just wanted to set the record straight on the judges…

I read the article in http://www.ufc.com. In the article, the judges explained how they scored for each round and how they couldn’t see all the actions of the fight from the angle of their views.

The question is, did the judges see how the Bisping fight that night? If so, I want to know how the American judges determined that Bisping should be a winner after he “fought” like a little scared kid. In my opinion, Bisping did not do a single thing to show the whole world why he should be a winner.

From any angle of views, Matt Hamill clearly was a dominant fighter and he should be judged as a winner against Bisping.
