FBI Joins Search For Missing Deaf Man

April 11, 2007

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Federal agents have joined the search for a missing Vancouver man who is deaf and developmentally delayed.VuKhoi Dang Vu, 25, was born deaf and communicates through sign language.Vu’s family says he was headed to bed about 1 a.m. Saturday at his home. When they went to wake him, his bed was made and he was not there.

“It’s highly unusual, first of all for him to leave in the middle of the night during a rainstorm and also for him to be gone for more than an hour or two. It’s very unusual,” Joshua Dylka told KOIN News 6.

Detectives say they are getting help from the Portland and Vancouver FBI offices. Agents and officers are going door to door in Vu’s neighborhood, around 137th and Padden Parkway, and Ellsworth Elementary School asking residents to check their property for any sign of the man.

Family says that Vu is not afraid to approach people.

“Regardless of his communication difficulties, he would walk right up to you and write you a note and meet you. He’s very trusting and generally very happy and social,” Dylka said.

Vu is 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 110 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call (360) 828-7531 or call 911.
