Matlin To Sign Anthem At Super Bowl

 MIAMI (UPI) — Academy award-winning actress Marlee Matlin will sign the national anthem in American Sign Language during the Super Bowl XLI pre-game show Sunday in Miami.Matlin will sign as Billy Joel performs The Star-Spangled Banner, the NFL said.

It will be Matlin's second time performing the national anthem in sign language at a Super Bowl. She was in Super Bowl XXVII in Pasadena, Calif., with Grammy Award winner Garth Brooks.

Matlin worked with Billy Joel in his music video, We Didn't Start the Fire, and performed with Joel on the PBS series, Sesame Street.

Matlin won the Academy Award for her performance in Children of A Lesser God and received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama for the same film. Besides starring in the television series Reasonable Doubts, Matlin had several recurring roles and guest appearances on other TV shows, including The West Wing, Picket Fences and The Practice.
