My Perspective about Video Phones (VP)

Summary: I want to discuss with you about different video phones (vp) that I hear many stories of how my friends talk about good or bad things about video phone products. Keep in your mind, I am in neutral position, I just want to explain you what I think of. The video phones company are Sorenson, CSDVRS (Z340), HOVRS (MVP), Viable (VPAD) and SnapVRS (OJO).
Make the summary short, when you have a problem with one of these video phone product, please call your Customer Care or Tech support to solve the problem, not your friends.

MVP is Mobile Video Phone under “Purple” from HOVRS. I am try to learn how to use it and will call anyone in my IP number to give them of my IP #____________. Like that. I have to put friend to additional my friend’s # IP _________. So we would not loose number and back up in your MS Words to restore number of IP#____.
They are now learn and practice with feedback with Sorenson Video Relay or other brand.
Jimactor is good example what they want to hear from your feedback. Avoid to misunderstood.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa Jimmy,,, actually you hit the nail on the head,deafies need to learn to SPEAK up, like you said, if they do not, how the heck can the manufactor improve the product .. with out the feed back they would not have a clue as to what was wrong with the product originally..

Honest with you all, I have all VPs but few. That means i have all different phone numbers, huh??? I am afraid not to be able to contact with friends with VP i don’t have. I have Sorenson (1st one I got), D-link eye2eye?? (now obsolute?), VPAD plus ( i love it but still can’t call to other friends who don’t have VPAD), and now waiting to get MVP (capability to get thru all differnt VPs wireless). What else?
I use all VRS operators alternately so all get fair share of funding. Why don’t you do same thing?
Oh yes, I had heard “rumor” that the internet service providers (ISP) (like AOL, Comcast, Cox, Earthlink, etc) might change their charging policy. Right now, Time Walter might think of charging the time using the internet using.. meaning 30 minutes using internet times cost = BIG BUCKS! So I would focus to worry about this than what kind of VP is good for me. You have to learn to focus on everything related to VP (like internet providers’ charging, quality of service, type of VP devices, etc.) I am afraid that someday VP devices would not be free to all. Every company and services has to cut down service because of cut of budget. Please don’t complain to us about “no more free things for us!”.

IS THE MVP FREE FOR ALL DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PEOPLE? CAN A DEAF PERSON WHO WORKS FOR A DIFFERENT RELAY COMMUNICATION SERVICES (SORENSON OR SNAP) CAN GET IT?

Yeah, that is made a 100% sense of what Jimmy said regarding to all Sorenson VP-100 & VP-200 and other devices. Really, he made me laugh about the vp and others similiar to cars: Chevy, Ford, Cadilliac, so on. We deaf should not bawling out loud to each other but direct any comment to your tech support/ care customer representatives. That IS made sense, right?!

Yup! Some people are not tech-savvy so therefore those misunderstood and barked at the wrong tree(s). (shaking head) lol
Sorenson’s vp200 is really good though they has been in the business for over 8 years… VPAD+ and Ojo perform real good right now as I hear but don’t have them. I have vp200 and MVPs and plan to purchase a z340 when they release it.
Hovrs MVPs are still in the beta process so they need to give them some time to improve those especially the router issues (conflicting with vp200). I briefly used it and it really worked well using my WAN but had conflicts with the vp200. So I bought a switch and second IP address to solve mine underway. I’m sure it will improve over the time just like the VPAD and Ojo did after their early release periods before, after those experienced some difficulties.
That is true. I know most of the deaf citizens do not recognize how technicians are working on the difficulty with videophone after they purchased and aggravated. Maybe companies should provide their purchase included guarantee if they need some improvements from responsibility equipment.

That is excellent job to let everyone knows… Which they should not complain to each other……. Straight to whom person who works like for Sorenson, Vpad, etc……….. I know they are trying to improve the technicans…. Which they are lucky to get free why complain…. If they have any idea inform them, let them know thier opinion…… Since it is alot better than old times and easier to communicate on VRS or VP than old time with TTY and Relay Service……. Much more faster than old times…… Support your good job to let everyone know…..

Ha got it since 2 weeks study now found out why cause it on depend what DSL, Cable speed and on depend what brand you have like dell or hp or ibm or comq or other that have 10 megs and 2 ip address still not work and have one mac apple and 3 homemade pc computer computer, 2 VP and MVP but wrong brand dir-625 weaking so look in internet suppose Dir-628 good quiftly device manager mean around router so will get it today the sorensonvrs rep. will come and install D -Dink wireless dir-628 then will test and information more news what going on if succesful Tks.

i like to notify all deaf people to ask csdvrs sales or techician to find out which wireless router will work with Z 340 and my wireless router dlink 628 with update firmware and it cause problmes with z340 so be sure to ask them because csdvrs rep did not notify you which wireless router will work or not working ok good luck

You say that you use Sorenson, right? Do you have 10 digit number for Sorenson? If so, did Purple accept your orenson 10 digit number? Purple refused my 10 digit number Sorenson. I’m confused. Can you explain why Purple accept others but refuse Sorenson digit number?

I am a sophomore-to-be student from Gallaudet University. My major is Deaf Studies with Communication Studies double major. I totally agree with you! I am very glad that you made an important vlog about this. It is very important for Deaf people to value the companies who work hard with the ideas to provide the best resources for us, Deaf people. I get a lot of complaints/opinions on the campus about those stuff but after watching your video. I realized that I should have explained that to them to make sure that they show that they value their hard work to make it successful to provide the aid to Deaf people but great work! thanks for the information… it made sense… but a few things i do not agree i have called Hovrs about MVP a lot of times and no rep. has called me or emailed me to check with me about it.. i cant even use my mvp for at least 3 weeks… but now the last one i called HOVRS and talked with the different tech and she helped me and now it works… after all the calls with hovrs and no news from the rep… i can understand if they find some faults and have it fixed asap… but for three weeks, i cant agree with that….

I think there is another underlying issue here and that is the lack of
tech-awareness with many of us- especially us OWLS (older, wiser,
loving seniors)- unfortunately ‘wiser’ didn’t auto-translate into being
tech-savvy for many of us- smile

excuse me… VPAD and Z ARE NOT FREE…. COST $ TO BUY… ONLY MVP IS FREE (AND OF COURSE SORENSON) But I learn that MVP can steal Sorenson away like for example if someone tried to call me through Sorenson would switch to MVP automatically… that’s not right.

Obviously, your primary is MVP. When your friends call you, it will go directly to MVP. You can change from MVP to Sorenson. Have to ask your tech person, who gives you MVP product, he/she will change it for you.

You Right! I had vp200, csdvrs, snapshot & mvp too. vp200 still connection since 5 years now. Other snapshot & csdvrs not connect yet & mvp recent recieved few weeks ago that mvp not finish upgrade. Keeping all of these.

Just saw you video about all VPs. I agree with you. We are in a rapid tech age all this. Even webcam is doing well with new software that you can do VP as well. Just another option if you have a webcam then download free software http://www.oovoo.com and works really well.

the same thing as with the i phone. the fist came out and a lot of people complain about it but give it a time so the tech can sort it out afterward thing got better. the same thing so just be patient and give them a chance to make it happen otherwise we won’t have nothing at all just like back in 1950 so you guys should be glad about it. think twice before you say it for these people who didn’t know about it.

Beautifully said. Indeed, some people tend to forget that by complaining to each other will NOT solute anything at all. Just have to go straight to the company itself like you said reps, etc to give feedbacks, complaints or whatever the case is.
If we get something for free, we should always appreciate for the fact that we were given free and then if any glitches, etc.. LET them know, simple as that.
I’m just happy for the fact that there are more options now rather than just Sorenson’s so if I’m not happy with one product, I’d just go to different one like you said about cars.
More choices is always appreciate in our lives.

Hey Jim, Amen to this. People needs to use their common senses and patiences as almost all VP came out as beta then some became successful. I have Soreson and MVP I m happy with both of them. What’s more I can use MVP to go other room or to travel with. MVP are still beta right now with what I have. There will be better upgrades soon for MVP.
Perfect…you are 100 percent right….I have a soreson 200, snap ojo , mvp and webcam…all of them are smooth running without problem….you need to get four ip numbers and won’t cause any problem at all….my hubby and i did talk two seperate video tape at same time…still have no problem….

My understanding that the deafies, hard of hearing gossiped and curious about theirs opponent from other VP’s etc, whenever they called me ask me about vp’s issued i have NO COMMENT to talk about it they get mad at me since i am not customer service or tech support what do you want to tell me about Good or bad that is not my suggest to give you.. you will need to get it and find the fact you like not mine. I agree 1,000 times that you did explained very very clear except mvp and Z340 still have to pay and please don’t think that deaf or hard of hearing are idiots they are still learning (hearing still learning too) no one is perfect
